About TLC

The nature of this special place is our inspiration and driving force. On the edge of a wild coastal lagoon, surrounded by the Spotted Gum forests of Mimosa Rocks National Park on the Sapphire Coast of NSW, this land is a gift to be nurtured and shared.  We invite you here to immerse yourself in it.

The Land

In it’s recent history the land has been used as a saw milling site, a dairy farm, then a B&B establishment. Now it is evolving into a Wilderness Camp, a place where growth, renewal and connectivity are the core business.

The TLC Family

Your hosts here at Tanja Lagoon Camp are Sam, Loz, Amber and Jasper. Twenty years ago David and Libby Bright (Sam’s parents) took on the custodianship of this magnificent site. Since then the family have been on a continuous journey of repair and restoration.

They have removed all the barbed wire fences and planted over 7000 native trees and shrubs to restore native habitat and establish a safe corridor for wildlife to travel through the property.

Why Glamping?

Sam and Loz have spent most of their adult lives working for not for profit outdoor schools guiding and educating people in beautiful wilderness classrooms. They had no plans to create a safari tent “glamping” site until friends of David and Libby (Libby and Allan Hepburn) approached them in 2012 with an exciting vision.  To create “Earthwatch” style adventure holidays that support scientific research projects in the region.

The evolution of this idea gave rise to the need for a basecamp. The coastal property was the perfect location. Tanja Lagoon Camp was born.

The inspiration for Safari Tents came from Kooljamon, an Aboriginal owned safari tent camp in the North West of Australia. These “African Safari” style tents offer luxurious comfort with minimal separation from the sights and sounds of the natural environment.

The TLC construction was a celebration of hard work, creativity, sustainable solutions and the fine skills of local trade professionals.

What’s next?

Tanja Lagoon Camp is currently offering four luxury self-contained safari tents for guests to enjoy but the story doesn’t end here. The Tanja team are constantly striving to be the best they can be in sustainable experiential tourism with visions to evolve into an education centre for citizen science projects, outdoor guide training, permaculture principles and sustainable solutions.
