Sustainable Design

Sam and Loz have worked as outdoor educators with NOLS for many years. NOLS are the founders of Leave no Trace™. At TLC we are highly committed to putting the LNT Principles and Ethics into practice in our operations and planning.

Other ways we are integrating sustainable living at TLC:

Solar

We have the capacity to generate 22kw of solar electricity and a battery bank capacity of 17kw. This is enough electricity to power the entire camp.

Waste

We have installed an A&A Worm Farm Waste Management System. This powerful organic wastewater treatment system effectively processes all of our sewage, greywater and organic waste. We are constantly fighting the “war on waste,” striving to find alternatives for disposable items and recycling everything that we can.

Water Conservation

All of the water we use on the property is from rain water collected in tanks and dams. Where possible we use gravity to provide pressure. The tents are supplied with delicious UV and carbon filtered rainwater

Products

We are constantly fighting the “war on waste,” striving to find alternatives for disposable items and recycling everything that we can. We have a ‘green purchasing and supplier policy’ that governs our choice in products and suppliers prioritising locally made, recyclable and plant based compostable, minimal packaging and suppliers who are accredited and carbon offset.

Heating

We use a combination of heaters during the cooler months at TLC. We have pellet heaters in some of our luxury Safari Tents and all of our eco-cabins that have low emissions of particulates and are very efficient.

Structures

The tents are constructed on raised platforms, stumped with local hardwoods and the cabins are on eco-anchors to sit lightly on the land. We have consulted the Local Aboriginal Land Council before turning over any earth.

Materials have been locally sourced whenever possible. All major structural timber was milled by Sam onsite or nearby with a mobile Lucas Mill.

The design of the tents and cabins allows great shelter and airflow during warmer weather so there is no need for cooling energy needs.

We use power saving fixtures like LED lights, water saving fittings and energy efficient electric appliances.
